UK businesses can now tag products in their photo posts, so people can buy products as they peruse the ‘gram.
At present, you are able to tag up to five products in a single image, or up to twenty in a multi-image post, effectively turning your feed into a social media catalogue of sorts.
To be eligible for this service, your account must be linked to a Facebook account and you must have already posted nine times for the shop option to become available.
It’s a free service, but for now can only be applied to “organic” content, rather than sponsored or boosted posts and is only available for the moment for physical items such as clothing and cosmetics etc.
The virtual price tags are overlaid onto the post, prospective customers can then tap these tags to view pop-ups with further information, and a link to the store, eliminating a key gap in the customer journey between seeing the product for the first time and adding it to cart. Happy days.
